Summary
The faculty of a trade school in Whittier, Calif., decided to make a friendly gesture last May to fellow teachers in the city's public schools. A more or less formal invitation went forth: "We would like to invite you to a teacher apparition lunch."
How do these things happen? Only two explanations come to mind: The first is simple ignorance. Everybody has gobs of it, but ignorance can be easily understood and gradually relieved. The other is sheer carelessness, as in the work cited, which is even more prevalent and much harder to excuse.
