I applaud Augusta Commissioner Betty Beard for having the courage and vision to vote with the five other commissioners for the proposed trade, exhibit and event center site and operating agreement.
Mrs. Beard voted for the proposal because she wanted an amendment to be included to support one of her key goals: redeveloping the inner city. The excess money, collected from the additional $1 hotel room tax, will fund a redevelopment plan for several neglected neighborhoods.
