Summary


Solid performances, breathtaking photography and an uncommonly clever approach to an oft-told tale aren't enough to save The Wind That Shakes the Barley from its ham-fisted politics.

The movie is the story of Ireland's fight to free itself from British rule and the growing pains of a new republic not quite clear on its sovereign status. Wind stars the always-appealing Cillian Murphy as Damien, a would-be doctor who forgoes his medical education to join one of the Irish Republican Army's flying columns in the 1920s.
