My father recently suffered a heart attack and was taken to the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta. Having spent countless hours at Aiken Regional Medical Centers and University Hospital in Augusta during the eight years my mother was ill, I had grown accustomed to seeing ailing patients treated prompt-ly and with care and compassion.
That is why I was astonished when my father and other patients were left waiting, some over eight hours, before being admitted or placed in a hospital room.
