Vase Can Be Identified Despite Faint Markings

Summary


Enclosed are pictures of a vase that my husband's grandmother gave us about 50 years ago. It is 7 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. We do not know who made it because the name impressed in the bottom is not clear. We would like to know more about it, and the approximate value. - V.T., Crete, Ill.

A: The name on the bottom is a little hard to read and all that is clear is the capital "W" at the beginning of the word. After that, only the tops of the various letters are visible. Luckily, almost anyone seriously interested in American art pottery would recognize that the name that is so sloppily impressed is Weller, and the line is called Forest.
