This is not a job-searching question, but it is related to columns you have written that deal with thank-you notes after interviews. I work in retail and my supervisor requires us to send thank you notes to customers. In addition to being a nuisance to write, I'm afraid customers will be annoyed by them like they are from telemarketing calls. Don't you think it's overkill and that customers will consider it more junk mail? - "Stressed Out" in Alabama

A: I grew up in a retail family and couldn't disagree with you more! Sorry, but a thank-you note is a common courtesy. If you are just filling quotas with names on envelopes, it won't work for you. If, however, a customer shops with you and you want to cultivate that relationship, nothing works better than a sincere thank-you note combined with follow up contact about promotions and new merchandise your customer might like.
