In response to the letter regarding the pupil with meningitis ("Principal delayed meningitis matter," Nov. 26), I would like to explain the protocol used when our school was notified that the child possibly had viral meningitis.
When a school is notified that a child has a suspected case of a mandated reportable communicable disease, the school nurse is to immediately notify the director of the Columbia County Health Department and the school system's nursing supervisor. This was done Tuesday, Nov. 16, the same day the school was made aware of the possibility that the pupil had meningitis.See the full content of this document
