Closer John Smoltz registered his 40th save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Reds, but he's not satisfied with his pitches, which have lacked crispness lately.

He surrendered three hits and a run to the Reds after he retired the first two hitters in the ninth, and has allowed runs in three of his past eight games, his earned run average climbing from 1.86 on Aug. 27 to 2.34.
