Quake Survivors Beg for Aid

Summary


BANTUL, Indonesia - Exhausted earthquake survivors dug through fallen bricks, splintered wood and shattered tiles in the ruins of their houses Sunday, scavenging for food, clothes, hammers and anything else of use. Some looked for family photographs and other heirlooms.

People pleaded for aid, but help was slow in coming, although nations around the globe pledged millions of dollars and planes carrying medicine and basic supplies.
