PARIS - Small cars made big news at the Paris auto show last week.

The dozen-plus vehicles introduced included an all-new Ford Focus compact for sale in Europe; a five-seat "compact tourer" hatchback that Mercedes-Benz will sell in the United States next year; the sporty and stylish little BMW 1-series, and the teardrop-shaped C4 from French brand Citroen, a new model that promises to add heat to the competitive European car market.
