Entered into rest Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at the University Hospital, Mrs. Mattie Mae Searson of E. Cedar St. Mrs. Searson was a native of Lincolnton, Ga., but made her home in Augusta. She retired from the Medical College of Georgia after twenty-five years of service as an Executive Housekeeper. She was a member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church of which Rev. Dr. Johnny R. Hatney is pastor, where she sang on the senior choir. Survivors include three devoted sisters, Mrs. Alice Strong, Mrs. Belle Gilbert, Augusta, Mrs. Virginia Gunby; two step-sisters, Mrs. Rosa Maude (Roy) Brown, Mrs. Ida Pearl (Clay) Edmunson, Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Belle Bentley, Piscataway, N.J.; grandchildren, Arthur Gibson,III, Bruce A. Gibson, Eric Gibson, Augusta, Ga.; Alicia Gibson, Charlotte, N.C.; Arthur Hankinson, Charleston, S.C.; and Vernice Gibson, Atlanta, Ga,; four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Johnny R. Hatney officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at 2721 Wheeler Rd., or the funeral home.
