Summary


Mrs. Lucy Rogers Ellis, 90, beloved wife of the late Thomas L. Ellis, entered into rest on June 5, 2004, at 4275 Owens Rd., Evans, Ga. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jane R. Ellis and James L. Jurgens of Augusta; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer H. and Dr. Pierre-Andre' Y. Touze' of Antibes, France; great-granddaughter, Alexiane Touze' of Antibes and great-grandson, Luke Gustafson of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, John B. Rogers of San Antonio, Texas and sister-in-law, Martha Thomas Ellis of Atlanta.

A native of Mt. Vernon, Ill., she attended Washington University, graduated with a B.A. in French from Sophie Newcomb/Tulane University in 1935 and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi. The family settled in Mobile, Ala. in 1947, where she was a homemaker, as well as teaching 6th grade for several years. She was recognized as an outstanding teacher and was involved in innovative efforts toward quality education. She is fondly remembered by her students nearly 60 years later. She was active in church work, teaching Sunday school for many years. She was a trusted friend, an avid reader, an exceptional cook and enjoyed bridge, gardening and all water activities.
