Summary
Eiko Iwata Ziemer was born in Oita, Japan and came to the United States in 1951 as the bride of SFC Rudolph Fredrick Ziemer (deceased June 15, 1976). Eiko was a graduate of Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan where she had earned a degree in English Literature. Several years after arriving in the United States, Eiko became a naturalized U.S. citizen in December 1955. Arriving in the Augusta area during the summer of 1963, Eiko and her husband decided to settle here upon his retirement from the army at Fort Gordon. She began working for Civil Service in the Civilian Payroll division in 1965 and retired with 30 years of service in October 1995.
After retirement, Eiko pursued many activities, including weekly organ lessons, line dancing and senior aerobics. She was also an active member of Senior Friends at Doctors Hospital and volunteered both her time at Ft. Discovery and area nursing homes as well as her talents in preparing decorative origami to place on meal trays for patients at Doctors Hospital. She devoted much time to her two grandchildren of whom she was very proud and found to be a constant source of joy and pleasure in her life.See the full content of this document
