Summary


Mr. Arthur Lee Sparks, age 82, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a Farmer, the owner of Sparks Grocery Store for 35 years in Portal, and a rural mail carrier in Portal for 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He was a member of the Portal United Methodist Church where he had served as the chairman of the Board for several years, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years Myrle Mixon Sparks of Portal; Three daughters and sons-in-law; Lynn and Bill Srickland of Richmond Hill, Ga., Ann and Jimmy Lanier of Portal, and Nan and Harold Finch of Portal, Ga.; One sister Edith Laircey of Statesboro; One brother Donald Sparks of Portal, Ga.; Seven grandchildren Jennifer Strickland of Albany Ga., Leslie Strickland of Mt. Vernon, Ga., Jason Lanier of Statesboro, Ga., Lacey Lanier of Statesboro, Ga., Mark Lanier of Portal, Ga., Nathan Finch of Montgomery Ala., Mandy Finch of Charleston, S.C.; One great grandchild Will Strickland of Albany, Ga.
