WASHINGTON - Most Americans say there has been significant progress in achieving the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of racial equality, though blacks are more skeptical, an APIpsos poll found.

On some measures such as annual income, blacks have closed the gap considerably with whites during the past few decades, census figures show. Their progress might have stalled, however, and some fear a possible backlash.
