Thank you for your coverage of recycling at Savannah River Site. Reclaiming spent fuel pieces is a major service for all mankind, a service perhaps on a par with Savannah River Plant's contributions 50 years ago.
We have produced a bit more that 1,000 tons of plutonium since the start of the nuclear age in the 1940s. The majority of this grisly material is contained today in irradiated fuel rods stored all over this troubled world. Any of this plutonium could be made into a low-yield nuclear truck-bomb potent enough to burn the heart out of a major city, and plutonium is ideal for much-easier-to-make dirty bombs for which no nuclear explosion is needed.See the full content of this document
