FORT STEWART, Ga. - Standing in formation under a sweltering sun, 4,300 National Guard soldiers of the Iraq-bound 48th Infantry Brigade got a rousing send-off Saturday - including words of approval from the Army that some troops had been waiting to hear since the first Persian Gulf War.

"I pronounce this brigade fit to fight!" said Lt. Gen. Russell L. Honore, the Army commander who oversees training for all deploying troops on the East Coast.
