Gail Hendrix knew her hospital was hitting the mark when it went eight months without a single patient on a ventilator getting pneumonia.
That feat in early 2006 earned Aiken Regional Medical Centers an invitation from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to become a "mentor" hospital to help others reach higher standards of care and avoid common hospital hazards such as the acquired pneumonia.
