Summary


Gail Hendrix knew her hospital was hitting the mark when it went eight months without a single patient on a ventilator getting pneumonia.

That feat in early 2006 earned Aiken Regional Medical Centers an invitation from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to become a "mentor" hospital to help others reach higher standards of care and avoid common hospital hazards such as the acquired pneumonia. Today, institute members will make their first site visit to see firsthand what the facility is doing in that field and others.
