Harlem, Grovetown Win Fight Against Fire Tax

After thousands of dollars in attorney fees and months of stalemate discussions, the cities of Harlem and Grovetown have apparently won their fight to keep out a countywide fire tax.

Columbia County has been working on a plan to switch from subscription-based fees paid to the various private fire departments to a system of collecting the money through property tax bills and contracting fire service with the fire departments.
