Summary


South Carolina pupils scored above average on a nationally standardized test of reading, language and math skills for the fourth year in a row, which educators say shows that the state's strict academic standards are working.

According to results released Wednesday by the South Carolina Department of Education, about 57 percent of fifth-graders, 51 percent of eighth-graders and 55 percent of 11th-graders who took the TerraNova test scored above the national average.
