Network Gives Support to Families Struck by Juvenile Diabetes

It was only five days after Rachel Cantu, then 9 years old, exhibited the first symptom of juvenile diabetes, and she lay in a hospital bed almost in a coma.

"Other mothers tell birthing stories. With us, it's diabetes diagnosis stories," said Rachel's mother, Debbie Murphy, who helps lead a newly formed support group for families of children with diabetes. The Juvenile Diabetes Family Network will hold its next meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mally's Bagels & Grits on Washington Road.
