Entered into rest Wednesday, June 6, 2007, Mrs. Frances (Frenchie) A. Plenert, 89, wife of the late James Plenert.

A native of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Plenert entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1941, serving as a frontline surgical nurse in seven campaigns in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. She received a Bronze Star for her service at Anzio Beach in World War II, and was recalled for the Korean War in 1951. Her service in Europe was chronicled in the book And If I Perish, which told the stories of sacrifice and courage of World War II frontline Army nurses. After her military service, Mrs. Plenert stayed in the Army Reserves and worked as a Public Health Nurse until her retirement in Phoenix, Ariz.
