I would like to comment on your editorial titled "The price of knowledge" (July 11). This editorial seems to be stating that, sometimes, the price that our government pays to gain knowledge is much too high. If my understanding of this is correct, then I wholeheartedly agree!
I think you could expand this thought to include all government spending. I would like to congratulate all of the voters in Richmond County who voted against the 2004 SPLOST and the recent bond issues for the sports arena and the jail facility. It is truly unfortunate that the working conditions at the current jail are so terrible, but where was the county engineering oversight when this facility was being built? Someone or some department royally dropped the ball about making sure that this jail facility was built properly.
