AIKEN - With the first day of school popping up in early August on many calendars, some legislators and others in South Carolina are pushing to delay the start of classes until after Labor Day.

School districts in South Carolina assemble their calendars as they wish, and although legislation in recent years for a state mandated post-Labor Day start has been defeated in the General Assembly, legislators have said they expect the issue to return again.
