Blacks Part of Augusta Exodus
Columbia County's black population increased by 3,467 residents from 2000 to 2004, a 34 percent increase. No county in the Augusta area - including majority-black Richmond - saw such an increase in overall numbers or percentage. The next highest percentage increase was Aiken County at 5 percent.
