Mexican President Vicente Fox recently commented that Mexicans are willing to do jobs that blacks wouldn't do. He apologized later, yet the question remains: Why did he single out one group of people?
After the Civil War gunmen were hired to use any means necessary to turn back newly freed slaves heading west. Why? Because former slave masters could not find white workers to do jobs that blacks once did on the plantations. If not for the labor force of blacks, European immigrants and the Chinese, the Transcontinental Railroad would not have been completed. Fort Sill, Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth were built by black U.S. Cavalry troops given the name Buffalo Soldiers by American Indians.See the full content of this document
