Atlanta Extends Closer's Contract

Atlanta would once again have been playoff-bound if Bob Wickman was a Brave on April 1 instead of July 20, general manager John Schuerholz boldly said Wednesday.

If that's the case, it seems Atlanta will be back in the postseason mix next year. The Braves made a statement Wednesday by signing the veteran closer to a one-year extension for the 2007 season at a cost of about $6.5 million.
