He was a catholic and a veteran of the US Army.

He was born on May 29, 1957 in Augusta, Ga. to Betty Ann Grant and the late George Grant, Sr. He retired from the Untied States Navy after 20 years of service. After retiring, he continued employment for several years with Raytheon and Norshipco Corporation. He was currently employed with the Norfolk Navy Shipyard.
